UPDATE: The Rifter® #51 – shipped to everyone on Monday. It looks great and is another fun-filled issue. Have you renewed your Rifter subscription?

I’ve been writing up a storm. Writing bits and pieces of several books, assigning artwork, working with freelancers, and developing new product.

UPDATE: Heroes of the Megaverse®. I hope to finish Heroes of the Megaverse® over the weekend and get it to the printer next week. I think you’re gonna love it. I’m hotter than heck right now. Worked till 9:30 last night and the night before. Ideas are flowing fast and furious and I’m loving what’s coming out. I’d guess that at least 60% of the book is written to various degrees (I’ve been jumping around writing various sections), and I need to start wrapping it up so we can get this bad boy to the printer NEXT WEEK.

UPDATE: Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™. I am dying to dive into the rewrite and additions for this fan favorite book. Getting the amazing and terrifying cover by E.M. Gist has only made me want to write it all the more! Gaaaaah. Must write vampires.

UPDATE: Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook™. I must admit, I was stunned during the Monday podcast when someone asked, how much more can be said about vampires in Rifts®? I think my knee jerk reaction was something like, “Are you kidding?!” And then I talked about just some of the things we were going to cover. Wow, there is soooo much we want to say about vampires and the vampire kingdoms themselves, how they are structured, vampire society, their attitude, how they treat humans/mortals, secret trade partners in the outside world, plans for global domination, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Freelance writer Matthew Clements and artist/writer Mark Dudley are finishing their ideas and contributions to this sourcebook. Some art is done, more art will be assigned. The revamped (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun) Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™ and Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook™ will add a whole new dimension to the Vampire Kingdoms and the threat vampires represent in North America. I have a million ideas for this book.

UPDATE: Armageddon Unlimited™ (for Heroes Unlimited™ and ties into the Minion War™) is next on my plate. The cover by Mark Evans should be done in a few weeks, the sketch is fantastic. I still need to assign out the interior artwork and had better get to it.

UPDATE: Rifts® Thundercloud Galaxy™. Art has been assigned and has started to come in (looking great). Some rewriting and editing has also begun.

UPDATE: Rifts® Lemuria. Some art has been assigned and work on this title continues to move forward. John Zeleznik may do the cover after all. We’re excited about this title.

UPDATE: Dead Reign™ Sourcebook Three. E.M. Gist is slated to do the cover. I just need to find the time the write this book for an October release. It may be a bit larger than the last two; I’m thinking 96 pages.

UPDATE: Other game titles. A number of other titles are in development, including at least three secret projects. Exciting.

UPDATE: Non-book products. We have a few non-book products in development that we think you’ll enjoy, too.

UPDATE: Sales. Online sales are better this week and I think will soar with the release of new titles.

UPDATE: Dad. Dad was down in the dumps when I visited him on Tuesday. The long wait to get surgery scheduled is wearing on him. My father is a worrier to begin with, and having all this time to think about the surgery and his altered life after it is taking its toll. For those who don’t know, my Dad has bladder cancer and needs to have his bladder and prostate removed. He’ll have a permanent catheter and life will be different, but if all goes well, he should be cancer free and able to live a relatively good and normal life. Of course, I heard how he is almost 80 and he might not survive the surgery. I tried to quiet his worries, but he’s right. It will be a long surgery, and that’s what’s causing the delay, his doctor wants to get another doctor to assist him. I did get him to smile and laugh a bit, and we had a later, heavier lunch, but he was not his happy self. Wish there was more I could do for my Dad, but all I can do is be there for him and try to take his mind off his illness and woes. I hope surgery gets scheduled soon, and goes well.

UPDATE: Last Palladium Collectibles Summer Auction starts Sunday, July 25, 2010. The emphasis is Rifts®, Rifters®, Weapon Books and artwork, with signatures galore. We have printer proof copies of the out of print Rifts® Ultimate Gold, Rifts® Machinations of Doom Gold, Rifts RPG®, Rifts® Dark Conversions, Rifts® Aftermath, sets of The Rifter®, individual copies of out of print issues of The Rifter®, several of the old weapon series titles (from Erick Wujcik’s collection), Kevin Siembieda fantasy prints (almost out of print) Mike Wilson original artwork, and more! A more detailed description is found elsewhere in this Update. Note: This is the last one for the summer, but we may do 2-3 in the Fall.

UPDATE: Live Podcast. I had a live podcast Monday week and it went really well. After a brief update of what’s going on at and coming out from Palladium Books, we talked about writing, with a particular emphasis on “content” rather than the mechanics of writing. I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from freelance writers, aspiring writers (send in those submissions to The Rifter®!) and non-writers alike. The writers said it really gave them some keen insight and much helpful information, which is awesome. I was on such a roll, we talked from 6:15 till 9:00 PM. Non-writers said it was interesting too. One person said after hearing me talk about the two, upcoming Rifts® Vampire books he can hardly wait to see them – and this gent is working on one of them! Funny. It was a good talk and I have gotten nothing but positive feedback from it. Outstanding. I’m delighted so many writers seemed to think it was very helpful. Note: These “live” podcasts are recorded and can be downloaded for your listening enjoyment anytime.

Live Podcast Monday July 26, 2010. I think I’m doing a second podcast next Monday. It sounded like the host of Gateway to the Megaverse, Matthew Daye, was up for me coming back, so if he’s available, I will be back next Monday. I think it will be general questions and answers for two hours from 6-8 PM and then general chatting for a while after.

Kathy Simmons – new life size Halloween props are being offered online at queenofghouls.com. If you are into Halloween decorations, you need to take a look at her creations. They hold up great in the worst weather, dry out absolutely fine, and break down to the size of a king-size pillow for easy storage (and come with a storage bag). People who came to her weekend display and sale marveled at the craftsmanship, high quality and how cool the creatures looked. They are super-impressive in person. Plus, for Palladium fans, you are likely to get a Kevin Siembieda co-creation as I custom paint about 60% of the monsters’ hands and 35% of the masks/faces. If I didn’t live in an apartment, I’d be buying and displaying a dozen of them myself. I couldn’t help myself and purchased one of the signs. Kathy’s thinking about adding capes and some other smaller items to her array of Halloween creations. Go to queenofghouls.com to see photos of her amazing work and what’s currently left available in her store.

Palladium Fans Speak

Every Christmas season I post comments by some of the people who order Christmas Grab Bags. I meant to start doing that a couple of Weekly Updates ago, but one week I was pressed for time and last week I forgot. So here goes. More will be posted next week. Thank you EVERYONE for you continued support, your kind words and suggestions. – Kevin.

LV in Thousand Oaks, California wrote: “Not Relevant . . . I love my MMOrpgs and have been playing WoW since day one. I have purchased and tried every Mainstream MMO since Ultima Online. Trion Worlds labeled all the people who have ever enjoyed Rifts®, which is more than those who purchased the books from official sources, as not relevant. The thousands that were inspired by Rifts, not relevant. The tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people touched by those inspired, not relevant. Thanks for what seems to be a never ending struggle!”

MD in Fenwick, Ontario wrote (in part): “I don’t normally order Grab Bags . . . With this new kick in the teeth for Palladium, I felt I should show my support for your company and its product directly.”

MJ in Des Moines, IA wrote: “Special thank you to Kevin Siembieda and staff. I started playing Rifts® in the 1990s. Through countless hours of gaming I have gotten through some very rough times. I played through high school, Military (Army), and various hardships. Not to mention making some amazing friends who I still call today to tell them of new adventures I have played through, and to relive the previous adventures we barely made it out alive in. Through tragedies and hardships, Palladium still stands. I admire your integrity, honor and dedication. Thank you for everything. I am now passing the experience down to my two boys!”

JD in Kennedale, Texas wrote: “Thank Ya’ll for 20 years of adventure and friendship. I’ve tried a lot of other systems, but none were as smooth and far-ranging as yours. After finding the Palladium Fantasy RPG® main book in storage after 10 years, me and my brother are getting his kids into playing.”

DB in Saratoga Springs, New York wrote: “First of all, the X-Mas Package is sweet. Second, what you guys do is awesome. You are actually part of the inspiration for a unique system my friend came up with, so without you, we wouldn’t have that. It’s been a while since I’ve played Rifts®, but with this [grab bag] I can probably convince everyone to get back into it. Best of luck to all of you and especially your dad, Kevin.”

SH in Roy, Utah wrote: “I am absolutely amazed at how you’ve kept struggling and overcome so many disasters over the last few years. I have to thank you for giving me hope through your example. Thanks to ALL at Palladium. And I am very happy you have kept such a fun game alive.”

    The Queen of Ghouls
    Halloween fun year round

Kathy sold 13 of her creations last week, and if the sales follow last year’s pattern, she’ll be selling like hot cakes in the months of July and August. If you see something you want, you’d better buy sooner than later. Remember, these are one-of-a-kind works of art.

Palladium’s very own Kathy Simmons makes and sells all-weather, life-sized Halloween props. Each is a one-of-a-kind work of art. Each looks frighteningly “real.” All come apart for easy storage. All come with the lawn stake to stand them up in your front yard. Indoor stand sold separately.

Types of “Ghouls” include: a wild-eye butcher, a ghoulish butler, killer clowns, wizards, witches, devils, grave ghouls, scarecrows, crawling zombies, staggering zombies, all kinds of zombies, executioners, mad doctors, vampires, werewolves, monsters, grave ghouls, and more. Kathy’s also now offering an array of hand-painted Halloween signs, signs with heads and bodies hanging from them, witch’s brewing pots and more. Best of all, her high quality creations are much more affordable and imaginative than most competitors or mass produced items in a store, making them affordable Halloween fun.

If you think the photos online look good, you should see them in person. A typical “ghoul,” as she calls her creations, costs $89-$150. You can see some of her work at her Queen of Ghouls™ Ebay store – queenofghouls.com.
