UPDATE: Triax™ 2 is DONE and at the printer. It will be available at the Palladium Open House next Thursday through Sunday, and will ship to distributors and those of you who have ordered online the following Monday, May 3, after the Open House. I approved the printer’s proof copies Tuesday afternoon, it looks great and is on track for delivery next Thursday (VIP night of the Open House).
UPDATE: Rifts® Hoodies are available right now. The Rifts® hoodies look amazing. I don’t usually wear hoodies and I love them. Pre-orders shipped today. The rest are ready to ship and will be available at the Open House.
UPDATE: Rifts® T-shirts. We have FOUR new T-shirts debuting at the Open House. A Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms T-shirt, Rifts® 20 year anniversary T-shirt, a new Game Master T-shirt, and an Open House T-shirt.
UPDATE: Online Sales. Sales for the week started out low and weak, picked up for a few days, but ended poorly. Friday morning sales were flat-out awful. Overall, sales were down by about 35%, but that’s up from last week when sales were down 50%. Without a major new release, April sales are always the pits.
UPDATE: DriveThruRPG.com sales up. After a two month sales slump, this month’s sales were up 25%. Cool. DriveThruRPG.com offers PDFs of approximately 90 Palladium game titles, including The Rifter® issues #1-40, Best of The Rifter®, The Mechanoids®, The Mechanoid Invasion® Trilogy, Deluxe Revised RECON®, the Advanced RECON® sourcebook, Rifts® RPG (1st Edition), Splicers®, Heroes Unlimited™ (1st Edition), Palladium Fantasy RPG® first edition titles and many other (mostly) “out of print” titles.
UPDATE: Dad. I’m happy to report that my father, Henry, continues to do well.
UPDATE: Rifts® Movie. I know, you want to hear that there will be a Rifts® movie. I can’t say that . . . yet. I wish I could tell you what is being discussed, but I can tell you that Rawson Marshall Thurber’s screenplay has people excited and the movie option has been renewed for one more year. Yes, this is the 9th year Rifts® has been under option with JB Films. I think that says something in and of itself. Could there be different news this time next year? Let’s sure hope so!
UPDATE: Licensing, New Markets and Crossovers. Something is in the wind, because there has been a lot of interest in Rifts® and other Palladium intellectual properties as of late. There continues to be a lot of things happening on other fronts. I can’t talk about them in detail, but here are some snippets:
I’m afraid that’s all I can reveal right now, and nothing is official yet, but we dare to dream and are very hopeful on several fronts.
Positivity. I want to apologize if I sounded down, short or pessimistic in my last couple of Press Releases. I know I certainly had my moody and grumpy moments here at the Palladium office. The tight deadline, the painfully long hours and the frustration that no manuscript ever seems to be an easy or simple edit, combined with other pressures, an online sales slump, and delays all took their toll on me. I mean, I work 80-90 hours a week as it is. I have been doing so for the last several years. To get Triax finished, I had to ramp that up to 108 hours a week for the last two weeks. It was brutal, especially since I was tired to begin with. It was brutal on everyone. At the end of it all, my brain was burnt toast and I was exhausted. I’m happy to say our efforts paid off and our printer, McNaughton and Gunn, is getting the book turned around in record time for the Open House next weekend.
The point is, I was pretty much a zombie, low energy and my mood was “solemn.” Yep, solemn is the right word. Not down or negative per se, but solemn; not very playful or perky. It’s hard to stay positive all the time. It’s especially hard when the hours are long and problems seem to mount.
Over the years, I have been accused of being a workaholic. It’s true to the extent that I love what I do, so for me to regularly put in 60-70 hours a week is a joy, not punishment. But trust me, I do not enjoy working 80-90 hours a week on a regular basis without a long weekend or vacation here and there to catch my breath. It sucks. But to keep Palladium going these past several years, it has been a necessity. I’m blessed in that I love what I do, otherwise I could never sustain that kind of work schedule. Still, it’s exhausting and takes its toll on the mind and body. So I’m sorry if I sounded glum or negative.
We have some amazing new books in development and exciting ventures bubbling behind the scenes . . . if they work out. Hmmm. That pessimism is born from many “promising” opportunities that never materialized. That having been said, everyone at Palladium thinks they feel the wind of change shifting in our favor. There are a lot of positive things going on, big and small. I hope you all stick around for the ride, because I think some very exciting (and better) times are coming our way. With any luck, in the very near future.
Open House “Gaming Schedule” should get posted for your review today or tomorrow. This is a mostly complete list, but other games will be added and a couple G.M.s are not on the official schedule because they’ll be running “pick-up” games as needed. There will also be numerous panel talks.
Open House VIP Night. There may be 2-6 cancellations (there usually are), so if you are in town next Thursday and would like to attend the event, you should call or swing by to see if there are any slots open. Julius has started a waiting list and has one gent on it already.
The Palladium Open House is next week! On one hand, I wish I had another two weeks to prepare. On the other hand, I can hardly wait.
The POH is always a blast and after the last six gut-busting weeks, I am so ready to have some fun with friends. And I mean you. Our fellow gamers. The Palladium Open House is as special to us as it is to you. It helps us renew our spirits and enthusiasm. It is four days of games, laughter, talking and fun. We need it. We enjoy it and we feed on the energy and positivity you bring with you.
The last few weeks of work and doldrums is exactly what I was talking about when I wrote a few months back about putting our troubles and worries aside for a weekend. I, for one, am sick and tired of working all the time, worrying about the economy and fretting over one problem or another. I’m making the Palladium Open House a party. A celebration of fun, friends and games. I invite YOU to do the same. Come on over, have fun and forget your troubles – be it for a day or the entire weekend. It seems most of us are working harder than ever to make less money or hold our own. Life is hard sometimes. Use the Palladium Open House to find a little fun and camaraderie. Carve out a little “me time” and remind yourself what’s really important: Fun, friends, family, games and imagination unleashed. Laugh and game with us.
I’ll see some of you next weekend. The rest of you, don’t let your troubles get the best of you. Stay positive, hug the person you love most and keep those imaginations burning bright.
– Kevin Siembieda, Publisher, Writer & Gamer
YOU are invited to lose yourself in a weekend of fun.
YOU can pay at the door.
YOU can come for just one day – and those of you living nearby in Michigan, Ohio, and Windsor should do so.
YOU are our guests. Kevin and the gang will be waiting for you.
Join the fun.
The 2010 Open House is a celebration of gaming and friendship. We’ll have a Rifts 20th Birthday Party, celebrate The Rifter reaching issue Number Fifty (that’s 12 1/2 years of publication), and forget about our economic woes.

There will be many panel talks, a live auction (Saturday) with some amazing and rare books, art and items, a costume contest (Saturday) and non-stop gaming all weekend long.
Come for one day or the whole weekend, but do it. Do it because you, and all of us, need to forget our troubles and remember what life is all about: friends, laughter and gaming.

Triax™ Two is the long awaited and hotly anticipated sequel to the hugely popular Rifts® World Book 5: Triax™ & The NGR (more than 100,000 copies sold). Fans want this book badly, and it is going to be a hot selling item. A ton of new weapons, vehicles, power armor, giant robots and much more make this a toy box you will not be able to resist.
Heroes of the Megaverse® presents numerous NPC heroes, new details about the Cosmo-Knights and all kinds of fun with a magic artifact known as the Book of Heroes. This magic artifact is said to bestow incredible power upon those who use it. It can also guide and empower current day heroes and unleash forces that could have a profound impact on the Minion War. Only one copy is known to exist, and everyone wants to get their hands on it – good guys and bad (demons, Deevils, the Splugorth, the Dominators, the Kreeghor, etc.). According to legend, he who controls the Book of Heroes and wields the “Power of the 2000,” can rule the universe. Once protected by the Cosmo-Knights, the book has gone missing for millennia. No one knows its fate or the true power contained within its List of Heroes. No one except YOU – the new keepers of this legendary Rune book.
Dimensional Outbreak™ is space opera at its best. A blend of sci-fi, horror, magic, technology and the alien that is sure to get your adrenaline flowing. The epic scale of the Minion War just got bigger and even the United Worlds of Warlock, the Splugorth and Naruni Enterprises are reeling from it. The story hooks are endless.
Thundercloud Galaxy™ is the perfect companion to Rifts® Dimensional Outbreak™ to expand one’s gaming Megaverse in the Three Galaxies. History, aliens, weapons, spacecraft, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
Kevin Siembieda is reorganizing, tweaking, expanding and updating one of the most popular Rifts® World Books ever published: Vampire Kingdoms™. This will include some new artwork and an expanded page count. The book will be updated and expanded in much the same way as Kevin did with Rifts® Sourcebook One a couple years ago. Best of all, it’s just the prelude to the Rifts® Vampires Sourcebook that will follow.
Trouble is stirring in the Vampire Kingdoms as ambitious vampire lords, ladies and misanthropes seek to expand their power to dominate more mortal life forms.
Written by Kevin Siembieda and a handpicked selection of other writers, this sourcebook explores the vampires of Mexico and their kingdoms in ways you never imagined. Tons of new data, adventure ideas and revelations.

Check ‘em out.
All-weather, life-sized Halloween props by Palladium’s very own Kathy Simmons. “Ghouls” include killer clowns, wizards, witches, devils, grave ghouls, executioners, mad doctors, vampires, werebeasts, monsters and soon, new stylings for zombies that look even more life-like. Kathy’s also now offering and array of handmade Halloween signs, witch’s brewing pots and more. Best of all, her high quality creations are much more affordable and imaginative than most competitors. Affordable Halloween fun.
If you think the photos online look good, you should see them in person. A typical “ghoul,” as she calls her creations, costs $89-$150. You can see some of her work (available off-season at lower prices) at her Queen of Ghouls™ Ebay store – queenofghouls.com.
It is with a sad heart that I report, Carl Macek, the mastermind behind Robotech®, died of a heart attack this past Saturday, April 17, 2010. He was 59 years old.
Carl was one of those polarizing personalities who fans, especially Robotech® fans, either loved (even deified) or disliked. He was a man of vision and strong opinion. In addition to taking three unrelated anime series and rewriting, editing and dubbing them into the ever popular Robotech® TV series (1985), Carl created Robotech® II: The Sentinels®, and helped pioneer bringing Japanese anime to the Western world. Sentinels never quite got off the ground, but Carl kept promoting and marketing Robotech with videocassettes, laser disks, soundtrack albums, and other things. He also got animation classic Akira into limited theatrical release throughout the USA and Canada and brokered the largest sale of Akira original artwork and animation cels in the world.
Carl Macek will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family and to his friends at Harmony Gold. More than ever, it is left to all of us to keep Robotech® alive.
